Vermutlich aufgrund einer vergessenen Kerze kam es am Donnerstagnachmittag zum Brandausbruch in einer Wohnung in der Straße Im Blütengarten. Zeugen bemerkten kurz nach 15:30 Uhr, dass es aus einem Zimmer im 1. Obergeschoss des Wohnhauses rauchte und verständigten die Feuerwehr. Die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Backnang kam mit vier Fahrzeugen und 23 Einsatzkräften vor Ort und löschte das Feuer. Ersten Schätzungen zufolge entstand Sachschaden in Höhe von etwa 50.000 Euro, verletzt wurde niemand.
